Is there a way to get my computer to type French accent marks?

...without losing other characters on the keyboard?
If I do or don't lose other characters, I'd like to configure the French accent marks. Any help appreciated.

If you have Windows, go to start, all programs, accessories, system tools, then character map, it will have any accent you need.
